Roth IRA


A Roth IRA is an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) established in the Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997. It was named for its chief legislative sponsor, Senator William Roth of Delaware, a Roth IRA differs in several significant ways from other IRAs. Most significantly, the contributions are made with after-tax dollars but distributions are tax-free so long as certain requirements including holding period and age are met. All earnings within the account are free of taxation.
