Weekend Reading: September 21, 2008
By Pinyo • Sep 21st, 2008 • Category: Weekly RoundupsLast week was incredible in many ways. Most notable were Lehman Brothers failure, Merrill Lynch sale, and AIG bailout. The wild swings over the last five trading days definitely woke up a few people. It’s times like these that we learn more about ourselves and help us understand if we really have our ducks in a row. If anything, I hope it helps you see the wisdom of not having all of your eggs in one basket and the value of fixed income investment as part of any portfolio.

Yes, this has been a wake up call week for sure. One “financial expert” on TV noted that no system has lasted where future reserves were not put aside. We seem to be living off future assets rather than putting aside for future needs.
Thanks for the links.
Hey Pinyo, thanks for the mention and congratulations on the big day!
@Data Entry Services — The living on credit mentality is just mind boggling.
@Ron — Thank you. That was a terrific day.
Thanks for including my article in your weekend roundup. It sounds like I need to work on getting one of my articles listed at MSN Money.
Hi Pinyo, many thanks for the mention, and congratulations on MSN money! (Yes, that’s a great goal to pursue:), Curt - me too!) I can’t believe that Bargain Hunter article - actually, yes I can… I knew of a similar case unfortunately.
[OT: Actually, I have to add to my comment... now that I've been to that original article and have read some of the comments (that it appears mostly undereducated males have made), I have to say that I can take a different perspective on the situation and see it in a bit better light than it seems on the surface; and that the comments expose many double standards about male sexuality still trenchant in many cultures.]
