A Story About American Economy
This week a friend of mine sends a story that funny, yet revealing about the fading American economy. The story was entitled: Why you cannot find a descent job in America? And here’s the story:
Joe Smith started the day early having set his alarm clock (MADE IN JAPAN) for 6 a.m. While his coffee pot (MADE IN CHINA) was perking, he shaved with his electric razor (MADE IN HONG KONG). He put on a dress shirt (MADE IN SRI LANKA), designer jeans (MADE IN SINGAPORE) and tennis shoes (MADE IN KOREA).
After cooking his breakfast in his new electric skillet (MADE IN INDIA) he sat down with his calculator (MADE IN MEXICO) to see how much he could spend today. After setting his watch (MADE IN TAIWAN) to the radio (MADE IN INDIA) he got in his car (MADE IN GERMANY) and continued his search for a good paying AMERICAN JOB.
At the end of yet another discouraging and fruitless day, Joe decided to relax for a while. He put on his sandals (MADE IN BRAZIL) poured himself a glass of wine (MADE IN FRANCE) and turned on his TV (MADE IN INDONESIA), and then wondered why he can’t find a good paying job in AMERICA.

Regarding why it’s hard to find a good job in the US… I’ve seen a similar e-mail before and there is some truth there. But I think it also goes deeper. I think there are a lot of people who have one type of job in their mind and aren’t willing to do anything else. Sometimes better options are out there if people are willing to be flexible.
AS for tithing, there were a lot of mixed responses on the article I wrote. It was interesting reading people’s points of view. Thanks for highlighting the article this week.
Thanks for the mention
. Moolanomy will not fall since we take averages of the sources from which data is received. So if we get data for your site from Compete and Quantcast, we will create your average based on data from these two sources only
. So rest assured you’ll have your right place!
@Patrick — Good point. There are jobs out there, but I would be looking for certain types of job if I am looking.
@FIRE — Okay, that sounds good. What is your opinion about Site Meter, Quantcast, and Compete in term of accuracy?
Interesting little story and it makes a lot of sense. There’s not much we can do to help ourselves if we keep farming out what used to be our core jobs.
Thanks for including my article in the roundup.
Dude is there really a TV made from Indonesia?*laughs*
But seriously, this is the result of globalization. You or your government can either make itself competitive or you lose the game.
Thanks for the link. I think the hardest part of estate planning is “getting it done”!
No more sitemeter? Wow.
