Weekend Reading: May 4, 2008
May 4, 2008 by Pinyo.
I’d like to do a quick roundup this week to highlight some new features introduced in the past few days. I think you will really like these:
- Recent Discussions – On the main navigation bar, the second link is “Discuss“. This link displays 30 posts with recently added comment. If you are familiar with discussion forums, you’ll love this feature. It is an easy way for you to follow conversations on Moolanomy.
- Free Magazines – A little further to the right on the navigation bar is a “Free Magazines” link to TradePub-hosted web site, where you can apply for free magazines, newsletters, whitepapers, reports, downloads, podcasts, and webinars.
- Help — The last link on the navigation bar is a “Help” link that explains some of the features on Moolanomy.
Personal Finance Articles
Here are several great articles I discovered this week.
- 21 resources for budget travel at Plonkee Money — Vacation season is upon us and I think this is a great place to start.
- Do You Have an Investing Exit Strategy? at Mrs. Micah — Most people know when and why to buy an investment, but the more important question is: Do you know when and why you should sell?
- The 15- vs. 30-Year Mortgage Savings Myth at Blueprint for Financial Prosperity — Jim shows us that 15 years mortgage and 30 years mortgage with prepayment are essentially the same. You know my stance: I like carrying 30 years mortgage better because it gives me greater financial flexibility.
- Will you get promoted? Take the test at Penelope Trunk’s Brazen Careerist — This is a nice little test. Although it’s not comprehensive by any mean, it’s a good place to start and it gives you some nice pointers about your career as well.
- 15 Things To Do With Your Economic Stimulus Check at Free From Broke — When you receive your economic stimulus check, don’t spend it until you read this article. It’s packed with good suggestions about productive things you can do with the check
- 50 Tips to Help Establish Your Emergency Fund at Consumerism Commentary — Flexo shares some great ideas that you can use to build your emergency fund.
Carnivals
I participated in several carnivals this week.
- Touching Peoples’ Lives was featured in the Carnival of Inspiration and Motivation: Twelveth Edition hosted by Positive and Successful Lifestyle Tips.
- 34 Ways To Save Money On Car Expenses was featured in the Money Hacks Carnival #10 hosted by Money Hacks.
- My Biggest Budget Busters was featured in the Festival of Frugality #123 hosted by Sound Money Matters.
- 25 Ways To Save Money On Health Care was featured in the Carnival of Personal Finance #150 hosted by Lazy Man and Money.
Lastly, don’t forget to participate in our best wedding tips and stories giveaway for a chance to win $50.

Thanks for the links about free magazines and the carnival links. My husband also writes a frugal / debt free blog. Please feel free to check it out, it’s called Engineer a Debt Free Life at http://engineeradebtfreelife.blogspot.com
Thanks, Pinyo. I was thinking about your blog when I wrote it, particularly Larry Swedroe. I didn’t get the idea from him, but it seems like his sort of advice…very practical.
Thanks for the link! Can’t wait to see my ING go up when my stimulus check comes in.
Instead of free magazines, I like picking up the free local newspapers on the racks at the grocery store, usually near the entrance. There are several good ones around here, esp. Cityview.
@Frugal One - I will check it out.
@Mrs. Micah - I think it’s a subject that worth follow up.
@FFB - no problem.
@Trent - There’s also a local free newspaper that I like in my area too. It’s call the Metro, but their finance section is a little light. These magazines are finance specific and they supplement the daily newspaper well.
Pinyo: Thanks for the link!
great roundup - and hey - i like the recent discussions plugin you created.
Hi,
Thanks for mentioning Carnival of Inspiration and Motivation and submitting your article for the carnival. Hope you will also participate in coming days as well.
