Touching Peoples’ Lives
April 14, 2008 by Pinyo.
When I started blogging, I’d never thought that my writing could possibly impact anyone. Above all else, it was a way for me to learn more about money management. It was more about me than it was about others. This all changed last Friday, when I read a blog post from Cootiehog: Monthly Bill Reduction - How We Did It.
In my last post I talked about how I was able to not only restore our Disney fund but send in a huge tithe AND pay off almost 20% of my credit card debt. You may wonder HOW I managed to do that, given the fact that I talk all the time about attempting to reduce our monthly bills.
The answer is easy: life insurance.
The author, Jaynee, went on to reference my series on life insurance:
- Life Insurance Part 1: How Much Life Insurance Do I Need?
- Life Insurance Part 2: Should I Buy Whole Life Insurance?
- Life Insurance Part 3: Is Term Life Insurance Right For Me?
Basically, Jaynee and her husband decided to trade in their whole life insurance policies for term life and use the difference to speed up their credit card debt repayment. I know that some will say it may not be the best move. But I think it’s a spectacular move with the credit card debt hovering over them.
Needless to say, I was quite speechless when I first read the post, and it took me a little while to regain enough composure to write my comment. It’s an awesome feeling to be able to touch someone in a positive way like that.
Good luck Jaynee. And be sure to use the money you saved to pay off debt!

that’s awesome - you’re making a difference!
Isn’t that the best part of blogging? Sure you can earn an income on the side (or even full time), but its helping people that really is great.
Swapping whole life for term life is the best life insurance someone cam make after deciding to get it. Nice job.
Hey Pinyo! Thansk for the shout out! =) Yes, we are definitely going to use the savings we are getting towards our debt. We’ll be using the $100/mo. we’re saving in life insurance premiums and the amount I WAS putting towards a credit card that is now essentially paid off. Those two things are now going towards my LAST CREDIT CARD that needs to be paid off. I predict I’ll have it paid off in about 3 years - maybe sooner once my husband’s van is paid off about a year from now. It’s very exciting because being debt-free leads to even more possibilities in our future - such as my being able to quit work and become an at-home mom when my youngest child enters first grade in 2010.
What a great, uplifting, inspiring story to read right at the beginning of the week! Thank you.
That is awesome and so inspiring! With term life being the way to go anyway, I think it was wise for them to speed up the debt reduction and get in life insurance plans that make sense. Way to give good advice to strangers, Pinyo!
A real good one…this will uplift anyone who reads the story.
That is cool to find you’ve changed someone else’s lives for the better. Ditto on what others have said about you making a difference.
Great job Pinyo.
It’s a wonderful feeling knowing that you’ve helped someone.
It’s always great to know that somewhere someone has found your blog posts useful and helpful in their own personal circumstances. It really makes you feel that what you are doing is much more than just a business and brings that human factor back into blogging. Great job Pinyo, keep up the good work.
Great job! The nice surprises in life is when you know about the people you touched
Thank you everyone. It’s an uplifting experience and it certainly affects how I view blogging.
