Mother’s Day Gift Ideas
May 5, 2008 by Pinyo.
Mother’s Day 2008 is Sunday, May 11th. Do you have something picked out for your mom yet? When it comes to buying gift, I am pretty lousy. I always feel overwhelmed and usually scramble at the last minute. This Mother’s Day, I would like to do something special for three moms — i.e., my mom, my wife (on behalf of my son), and her mom. But as usual I have no idea where to start.
Personally, I am not too thrilled about chocolates and flowers — although my wife loves Godiva chocolates. So, I have been looking around for Mother’s Day gift ideas, and here are some of the best ones:
- Spa — An afternoon at a local spa. It shouldn’t be too difficult to do a search on Google Map and make a couple of phone calls. Although it might be tough to get a spot on Mother’s Day.
- Spa Gift Basket — I think a spa gift basket, like Women’s Sampler by Caswell-Massey
or Green Tea Scent by Elizabeth Arden
would be a nice alternative. This option is also more private and good for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
- Photo Book — This is the new millennium version of a scrapbook. My sister visited this weekend and showed us a very cute Shutterfly Photo Book that chronicles our nephew first two years. However, I am also going to look at photo book from PhotoWorks which appears to be a bit less expensive.
- Photo and frame — If I can’t get a photo book in time, I think a good photo in a nice frame or a collage frame
would be a great alternative.
- Handwritten poem on a handmade card – This is inexpensive, but very personal option. I think it works well with a nice dinner.
- iPod with hand-picked songs, photos, and videos — Load up a new iPod
with her favorite songs, photos, and videos. It’s a little expensive, but I think this would be a terrific gift.
- Jewelry — I don’t know why women like jewelry so much, but it always work. I guess God made jewelry to keep dumb men out of trouble :-).
So what do you think about these Mother’s Day gift ideas?

A spa gift certificate always makes me SO happy.
For the mom who has it all, and who is passionate about a cause, making a donation in her name to her favorite cause is also a great idea. For example, BlogHer are running a donation challenge right now and have added a gift certificate option.

Pinyo,
Thanks for these great ideas! I want to add another one to the list - a green-themed book. A book is always a great gift, but nowadays I think a green-themed book can make your mom (and the planet) happier :-).
So how do you choose the right book for your mom? we prepared a guide for the best green books to give this Mother’s Day. We went over all the green books reviewed and covered on our blog and chose ten books that will suit ten different types of moms, from the suburban mother to the fashionable mom.
You are welcome to have a look at it on our blog: http://ecolibris.blogspot.com/.....-your.html
Happy Mother’s Day.
One my wife bought for our mothers was the “12 Ways You Made A Difference” journals.
There are 12 pages with the different prompts that you can write about:
The best advice you ever gave me…
When I didn’t listen, but should have…
Top five lessons I learned from you…
Our favorite tradition…
When you really bailed me out…
This coupon is good for…
When they write your biography it will begin like this…
Something I never told you…
The best laugh we shared…
What I like most about you…
My favorite story about you…
I don’t tell you this enough but…
Moms enjoy those things too and it’s a good keepsake!
@Vered - I haven’t thought of that. Donation to her favorite charity is a great idea!
@Hank - I think that’s really sweet.
I used Snapfish to put together a photo album for my wife on our anniversary. It was real easy to use and the album looks great. The only hard part was figuring out what pictures to use. She was real surprised and loved the album!
@FFB - Thanks for sharing. Snapfish is definitely another possibility.
In addition to the gift (this year it’s one of those thingies that will lead her to play her iPod on the car radio), I write my wife a poem every year. It’s inexpensive, but takes a lot of time… still, she loves it and it gives me some insurance that she will like SOMETHING that I give her!
