Around the Personal Finance Blogosphere
By

Instead of writing about a personal finance topic today, I am going to walk you through the personal finance blogosphere to show you some recent events and a few other things…
Current Events
- M-Network adds a new member – This week the M-Network invited Mrs. Micah to join our rank. We have been working with Mrs. Micah for several months now and she really impressed us with her energy level. I am pleased that she decided to join us. If you haven’t seen her blog before, please visit Mrs. Micah.
- The Finwikian – This one really caught me by surprised. Blogging takes quite a bit of energy and dedication, so when Mrs. Micah announced that she started a personal finance wiki, I was floored. Go and take a look! I can’t wait to see what would become of the wiki in a year time.
- Personal Finance Network – Recently the Personal Finance Blogosphere spawned three new networks. First, I started the Money Hackers Network, which currently has over 50 members. Then Paidtwice of I’ve Paid For This Twice Already… started The Snowflake Revolution to build on her snowflaking concept. And most recently, Madison at My Dollar Plan started the Life Skills Network with 4 other members: My Super-Charged Life, Frugal Dad, Chance Favors, and The Wisdom Journal.
- March Madness – Free Money Finance is wrapping up the first round of this year Personal Finance Blogs March Madness where 64 personal finance articles compete in a single elimination competition. My “Using Pareto Principle to Improve Personal Finance” post competed against “Your First Million Dollars.” Unfortunately, I didn’t fare too well, so congratulation to Ryan at Millionaire Money Habits.
- Rising Stars of Personal Finance Blogosphere – I am flatter to be included in the rising stars list among these great blogs: The Dough Roller, Fabulous Financials, Lazy Man and Money, Money Ning, Being Frugal, and Million Dollar Journey. Congratulation to all the honorees!
Carnivals
This week, I participated in three carnivals:
Some Great Articles
- Cheat Sheet: Ultimate Personal Finance Sites List — DebtKid did an awesome job of compiling one of the most comprehensive list of great personal finance articles in one place. Two of my articles were included in the list: 50+ Frugal Tips, Ideas, and Resources and 7 Steps Debt Reduction Illustrated. Thank you. It’s an honor to be included.
- Wide Open Wallet: 50 Awesome Open Source Financial Tools — If you like open source and financial tools, here is a list that takes you to 50 destinations. Wow.
- Why I think P2P lending is a bad idea — If you like controversy, this post by Gibble is sure to spark a firestorm amongst the personal finance bloggers. I hate to say it, but I have to disagree with a lot of what Gibble said. I think peer-to-peer lending could become a good complement to a traditional investment portfolio.
- Free File: Winnowing Out the Best Free Sites for Filing Your Tax Returns — FiLife compares 19 free federal tax software and ranks them by design & clarity, tax tips, state software price, and accuracy. I love comments like: “Clear language rather than gobbledy-gook, helpful pop-ups.” and “Creepy american flag that follows you as you file but it worked.”
- How to Reduce Your Taxable Blogging Income — Ciaran shares some great ideas on how take advantage of self-employed tax deductions, and reduce taxable blogging income. I used to have a SEP IRA once, may be it’s time for me to start a new one again.
Well, I hope you enjoyed the tour. Have a great weekend.
