Giveaway: Share Your Investing Story for a Chance to Win a Book
By
Pinyo, on November 15, 2007
Today, Moolanomy turns exactly 4 months old. To celebrate this occasion, I am holding a contest to give away Wise Investing Made Simple to 5 lucky winners. In case you don’t know, Larry Swedroe, an investing expert who offered to write a monthly Q&A “Ask The Expert” column for Moolanomy wrote this fine book.

There are two ways to enter
To enter, you’ll need to share your personal investing story…good, bad, or ugly.
Do you have a wildly successful investing experience? Did your investment bomb and you swear never to go near the stock market again? Did you have your entire retirement invested in Enron? What about the first time you tried your hand at investing?
- If you have a blog, write a post sharing your personal investing story. When you’ve finished, contact me with the URL, or send a trackback directly from your post. Note, I will not accept stories written prior to the publication of this contest.
- If you don’t have a blog, you can simply share your story here using the comment function below.
How the winners will be selected
I list and link to your stories as they are submitted. The contest ends on November 30th at 11:59 PM, Eastern Daylight Saving Time. I will use a random number generator to select the 5 winners, and announce the result on Sunday, December 2nd morning along with the weekly roundup.
The rules
First and foremost, this is meant to be fun. It’s an opportunity for me to give back to my readers, and the Personal Finance Bloggers community. If participating in this contest will cause any kind of problem for me, you, or Larry, please do not enter.
- All winners must be of legal age — usually, 18 years of age or older.
- These contests are open to participants outside the U.S., but in all cases are void where prohibited by law.
- No purchase is necessary to participate in the contests. Purchase will not improve your chance of winning.
- I will choose the winners from the participants listed below. I am the sole judge of adding entries to the list. In general, substantive story submitted in good faith will be accepted. On the other hand, plagiarized content, trackback from splogs, spams, non-story comments, and stories containing abusive or inappropriate languages will not be considered.
- In order to get the prize, I have to be able to contact you; so please leave a valid email address with your comment, or make sure I can contact you through your web site.
- Larry will be the one sending the books. This means I will have to pass along your information to him for shipping.
- There are no prize substitutions, and prizes are provided as-is.

My worst investment situation was when DH’s company gave us some stocks. After the second time (several years apart), they offered us an option to sell it back to them or purchase a full set of it (more than we were willing to put into it.) We sold it back – what we failed to realize is that we hadn’t held the second set of stocks for a full year and we ended up penalized at tax time.
Lesson learned.
Thanks for adding me! I love to read these stories.
I’m timid. I’ve yet to start investing in anything with risk. My money remains parked in FDIC insured accounts and one small I bond. I’ll have to change that once I graduate and find a full time job, but right now I’m working on accumulating a comfortable emergency fund.
My first investing experience was when I was 15 years old. I had just finished ‘Millionaire Next Door’ and been saving up to get a BC Savings Bond.
Took a while to save enough, but when I went to the bank to get the 3 year $400 bond, it felt very sweet. I must’ve calculated the compound interest 100 times during that period haha.
Amazingly enough, I still have the papers for it. looking at em right now! 4.875 percent wooooow
My financial experience really woke up with a football coach who started a company. I became part of the team and learned alot about how money works and what is happening to the average person on the street. It helped me to become a crusader, not only for my own preservation but to try and help motivate friends and family to take an interest in , plus find the fun and excitment behind becoming finacially independant. success to all of you. thanks for this opportunity.
