Money Saving Tips for the Holidays Guide eBook

The holiday season is upon us and this one is different because of the economic crisis.  Many people are either out of their home, or on the verge of losing it.  Many are unemployed as many companies are aggressively reducing costs to prevent business failure.  But this doesn’t mean that we should forsake the spirit of Thanksgiving and Christmas.  We can still give and enjoy the holidays while spending less.

    Great ideas from the M-Network. Here are some of the easy savings wins I just accomplished:
    Cancelled HBO, which we hardly watch anymore ($10 month / $120 year)
    Switched our phone and Internet to Comcast ($40 month / $480 year!)
    Reduced our childcare by 3 hours per week ($150 month / $1,800 year!)

    Great e-book! Has a lot of excellent ideas. Some I do, some I wish I could do, some I will do :) I especially loved the 24 book idea. I have collected different Christmas books over the years and keep them in a separate box (try to, anyway :) ). Then we read 1-2 each night as part of our Advent time. Adding more each year and letting them open them would add some spice to the season.

    One suggestion regarding the gift certificates and gift cards. Those are my favorite gifts for my older recipients, BUT with so many stores having tough times and several going out of business, pick your stores carefully. I suspect I am safe buying Walmart cards and hopefully Target and even Amazon. But when 2 out of 3 of my favorite computer stores are gone….I’m steering clear of specialty stores this year.

    Thanks again for this great resource. I’ll definitely be sharing it :)

    @Make Friends — Happy Belated Birthday :-)

    @Seth — That’s awesome. Saving over $2,000 a year is great.

    @Kaye — Thank you. And good point about gift cards. In fact my wife recently sent me a list of all the stores that are closing and it’s scary.

    What a nice idea and timely for the holidays. I love the idea of giving green gifts. Not only is it insurance for the environment but depending on what you buy, it can be easy on your wallet, as well. I hope this new administration will lead us out of this downturn so we can move forward as a country.
